Encompassing 500 acres of land situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Noccalula Falls Park and Campground is a must-see destination in Northeast Alabama. Created and managed by the City of Gadsden Parks and Recreation Department, the original park opened in 1953 and has since become the destination of Hikers, Campers and families from all over the world.
Central to the park is Black Creek, which divides the park into two sections; the Park and the. Campground. Situated directly in the middle is Noccalula Falls, a beautiful 90-foot waterfall that drops into a gorge that runs for miles downstream.
On the park side of Black Creek, visitors can visit a beautifully landscaped oasis including a Botanical Garden, Animal Habit, and historical buildings built in the late 1700’s and 1800’s, as well as ride one of two miniature trains that travel through the park on a mile-long journey through history. Once you’ve seen the park and all it has to offer, head down the Gorge Trail along a path that takes you down to the cavern behind the falls. As you head out of the park for the day, make sure you stop into our Gift Shop and grab a souvenir to remember your trip by.
On the other side of Black Creek, you will find our warm and inviting, family centered Campground. Once you check in at the Campground office, you’ll be given direction to one of over 100 sites where you may camp. There are both primitive campsites as well as full RV compatible sites. Included on site as well are 2 full bath houses with restrooms, a laundry room, library/media room, pool and a meeting room that is available for rental (if available), and 15 miles of trails to explore.
In addition to all of these amenities, Noccalula Falls host many events throughout the year. Just a few are Christmas at the Falls, Art On the Rocks, Car Shows, Smoke on the Falls, The Barbarian Challenge and many others.
Come join us for all the fun and excitement.
The Black Creek Trails consist of 15 trails and connectors for those who enjoy walking, running, hiking and bicycling. The Black Creek Trail (1.7miles) is a gravel path which can be entered beside the wedding chapel located at Noccalula Falls Campground; it is a peaceful, scenic walk where you can enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.
The following trails have been cut through the rugged outdoors for those who truly enjoy being surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. The trails connect with each other and you will find markers throughout the area to help you on your journey. Whatley Trail (1.0 miles) has a moderate technical terrain with rocks and rougher areas. Moonshine Ridge (0.7 miles) flows with a moderate elevation change. Cascade Trail (0.6 miles) flows with only a minor elevation change. Family Loop (0.6 miles) was designed with families in mind, the terrain is easy with only a minor elevation change. Jeep Hill Loop (1.0 miles) is more strenuous with moderate elevation changes. Jeep Hill Connector (0.3 miles) has the most elevation change of all trails for those that enjoy pushing the limits. Also, at the lower end of Black Creek Trail you will find Black Creek Bend (0.7miles) which is flat and flows along Black Creek. All trails are color coded on the map and also along the trails. We hope you enjoy the natural beauty that the trails have to offer, remember you may encounter wildlife along the way, please do not disturb them or their habitat. Motorized vehicles of any kind are not allowed on the trails.
The falls are a 90 foot drop into the Black Creek gorge. It is naturally fed by Black Creek alone. Being a natural waterfall it is dependent on rainfall to feed the cascade. When we see a high volume of rain we can see it flood (often in the Winter and Spring.) When we see little rainfall in the late Summer and Fall we may only have a trickle of water. Regardless of the amount of water it is always a site to see!
One of the special attractions to Noccalula Falls is that by accessing the Gorge Trail you can pass under the Falls. In addition the bridge leading over Black Creek above the Falls allows a 360-degree view of this grand natural waterfall.
Our Mini Golf Course, located adjacent to beautiful Noccalula Falls Park.
The course features a beautifully landscaped layout that takes you past cascading waterfalls, over and around streams, and around the rock formations found at Noccalula Falls.
The course was designed to be fun for all ages as well as present a challenge that will even make the most avid golfer come back for more. The course is lit for those that would like an evening out with friends and family.
